Starting a New Veggie Chapter in North Carolina wi...
This is the first blog post written from my new home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Since I launched this blog in February, my posts have covered my veggie experience from my home in the south of France. I moved to Raleigh a little over a month ago, and now that I’m starting to settle in, I’m ready to get my hands dirty again and immerse myself in the veggie scene here!
I’ve started my new adventure by signing up for weekly deliveries from Papa Spud’s. When I was in France, my company had an agreement with a local organic produce supplier called Terre2Sens. We could opt to receive weekly baskets of organic vegetables. What I liked about this system was the fact that you don’t get to pick what you want in your basket – they fill your basket for you based on what is in season. I was forced to try vegetables that I had never cooked before – the Jerusalem artichoke comes to mind! Papa Spud’s works exactly the same, and you can even select whether or not you want local vegetables only. Very cool! Papa Spud’s will continue to deliver a parcel to you every week unless you specify otherwise.
This week’s parcel includes the following goodies:
- Green beans
- Arugula
- Broccoli
- Carrots
- Eggplant (Aubergine)
- Tatsoi
- Red & Green Bell Peppers
I must say so far I’m very impressed with Raleigh’s vegetarian and organic awareness. The local supermarket I go to, Harris Teeter, has a large organic produce section and a wide variety of soy products for vegetarians and vegans. I thought I would have to do most of my shopping at Whole Foods, but Harris Teeter has such a nice selection that I haven’t had to go to Whole Foods for a few weeks.
I have only started to become acquainted with the restaurant scene here, but there seems to be a wide variety of vegetarian options. So far Raleigh gets two green thumbs up!
